Quebec’s unique and Irresistible female a cappella quintet

Galant offers superb music and total Gallic charm with humor and delightful audience rapport -without any language barrier. They offer a deep, rich repertoire of traditional folk songs and laments and moving and surprising vocal harmonies with unusual drive and vitality. The band is backed by percussionist, foot-tapper and suitcase player Jean-Francois Berthiaume. This unique Quebecois quintet is in a league of its own on the traditional folk music circuit and definitely a treasure worth discovering. They received 3 nominations a the last Gala de l”ADISQ – Best Newcomer, Best Performance/Performer and Best Album.
Jacinthe Dubé came to folk music via theatre. She is a founding member of the theatre troupe Les Saints Idiots, has directed 3 self- produced productions, in addition to singing and playing in 2 musicals. She has just celebrated her 10th anniversary as an improv comedy theatre player.
Evelyne Gélinas. A weaver and spinner, entered the folk music scene as a flautist and backing singer. A master of the concert flute, she completed her college degree in Folk Music and has performed at several festivals in Quebec, the Maritimes, and Europe. She has played as a guest with different bands. She puts her experience and her velvety-sweet voice to great use as a member of this unique group.
Josianne Hébert is the artistic director of the group with many skills including singer-songwriter, pianist and accordionist, as well as vocalist. She performs regularly in Quebec, Ontario, the US and Europe. She is particularly fond of the songs her grandmother passed on to her and keeps that passion alive in the group.
Mia Lacroix, to her surprise,turned out to be the soprano of this female quintet. Behind her shy eyes lurks a slightly naïve and refreshing sense of humor. She discovered traditional music through flute melodies and visited Ireland, Spain, Morrocco, France and most importantly Britain, performing at numerous festivals with the group Dieu Seul Nous Voit. In her travels she picked up new melodies and traditions in each country.
Isabelle Payette was born in Joliette, the heart of traditional music of Quebec, having been introduced to music as a child, singing with guitar and piano is part of her families way of life. After moving to Montreal, she joined André Gagné in the folk project of Pylawak as a guitarist and singer. In 2007 she released an album with the band Fleur déAssault and the same year joined this band. Her soft, clear voice and fascination with traditional songs adds much to the group.
